Not all events that cause a disruption of your normal business functions are the result of disaster or hardware failure.  Some events that cause disruptions are planned, such as denial of access to your workplace due to increased security surrounding an upcoming special event. Another example would be segregation of workers due to pandemic flu precautions.

The IT department has to work with the Business Continuity team to see that there are systems in place that can allow staff to meet and work in adverse conditions. Remote access to the DR servers, in a secure manner, is also an issue that IT needs to address.
